March 12, 2004—Philips Lighting Company has joined five other global corporations in the formation of the Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments. Philips Lighting, Forbo Flooring, The Invironmentalists, Johnson Controls, Johnson Diversey, and Milliken Carpets will use their cumulative knowledge and expertise in emerging sustainable solutions and technologies to bring cost-effective and environmentally beneficial strategies to today’s business leaders.
The Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments will continuously educate and demonstrate that sustainability and environmental performance are viable business development strategies for its members and for their customers. Beginning this spring, the Alliance will host a series of seminars nation-wide to share their expertise with companies who are interested in embracing the goal of sustainability. It will also promote certification and assessment programs such as the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program and advocate among governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations the advancement of sustainable built environments.
