March 13, 2006—Chad Industries Inc. has introduced its next generation of Wire Harness Assembly equipment, the CHAD HarnessMate. The CHAD HarnessMate is a portable laser-pointing device that aids operators in the assembly of wires or seal plugs into connectors.
Traditional harness connector assembly is done by hand with operators identifying the wire and then locating the proper hole in the connector grommet by reading text on the rubber and then counting to the holes to find the appropriate location. This process is both difficult and error prone, especially as the connector becomes populated.
The new CHAD HarnessMate provides a simple and effective guide for the operator. The operator selects a wire and either barcodes it or selects a wire from a list on the console. The CHAD HarnessMate then directs a laser beam at the corresponding hole in the connector. The wire is now inserted in the clearly marked hole. This simple operator interface makes the process easy and error free.
Proven in world class manufacturing facilities such as Boeing, this low cost, highly ergonomic, semi-automatic system streamlines the wire and seal plug insertion process by providing operator assistance on the harness layout table in the identification and placement of each wire and seal plug as it is assembled into a connector.
