June 4, 2004—The Power II from Power Innovations International is a new, custom-built, mobile emergency power solution that provides reliable backup power in virtually any environment. Power II keeps reliable quality power available at a moment’s notice, whether to maintain operation of sensitive security and production equipment at large events, or simply to assist a city government by powering a disabled traffic light while it awaits repairs.
Individually built to accommodate specific customer needs, the Power II is a truck or similarly large vehicle that is outfitted with scalable power outputs, hot-swappable battery modules, rapid power chargers, and emergency lights. Initially commissioned for use at the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympics, the original Power II is a one-ton GMC diesel truck with a heavy-duty Allison transmission capable of easily pulling a separate generator trailer.
The Power II’s modular design allows it to be equipped with power outputs from 3 Kilovolt-Amperes (kVA) up to 50 kVA, while taking advantage of Power Innovations’ Uninterruptible Power Quality (UPQ) systems in order to provide perfect quality power. At full load, battery backup for the Power II is scalable in 15-minute increments and (depending upon power demands) allows for up to 24 hours of reliable backup electricity. The hot-swappable battery modules housed within a Power II make recharging and servicing depleted battery modules quick and easy.
The Power II can also be supplemented with external generators that use UPQ systems to filter, condition, and regulate the incoming power, whether it is coming from Power II batteries or an external generator. This capability prevents harmonics, spikes, or surges caused by poor quality power from damaging electronic equipment and resulting in even more problems.
