April 28, 2004—PowerCold Corporation has applied to the US Patent Office for a new modular design heat exchanger patent that features “superior” modular and flexible designed plastic components. Utilizing polymeric materials provides additional value, sustainability, and innovation to PowerCold’s portfolio of products, claims the company.
PowerCold’s new proprietary PlexCoil fan coil air handlers, primarily used in commercial buildings for room air distribution, will be the first application for the new patent heat exchanger. The company plans to manufacture its modular heat exchangers using DuPont Caltrel Caltrel Fluid Energy Transfer System Applications, which PowerCold considers the most advanced technology in the industry for HVAC plastic applications. DuPont has also agreed to authorize PowerCold to manufacture DuPont’s own fixed-design heat exchanger units for the HVAC industry.
In addition, PowerCold recently developed a new Fluid Cooler in various sizes that incorporates DuPont’s Caltrel polymeric materials. The product is similar to the company’s successful Nauticon Fluid Cooler, but will use the new plastic tubing material inside, replacing the copper coils within a new exterior structure. PowerCold engineers have successfully tested the new Fluid Cooler and deliveries should commence in April.
