July 16, 2001—President George W. Bush recently observed a demonstration of the Johnson Controls UNITY system during a visit to the Camp Pendleton military base in California. The president was in the state to meet with state government officials concerning Californias energy issues. UNITY, designed and developed by Electronic Systems USA, allows seamless integration of major manufacturers HVAC, fire/life safety, and security systems into a single operating system.
The results of a May 24th load shed program mandated by the US Department of Energy were presented to the president. The load shed test showed that demand decreased more than two megawatts of power during a one and one-half hour period. The Johnson Controls on-site project manager at Camp Pendleton completed the demonstration by navigating through UNITY menus and screens, and answered questions.
The Johnson Controls contract at Camp Pendleton is for the upgrade, expansion, and maintenance of the energy management system throughout the base. The project uses the Johnson Controls multi-vendor UNITY front-end system to integrate existing Honeywell Delta 1000 systems and installation of Johnson Controls LonWorks based NexSys DDC system in 800 buildings.
