Prince Charles lauds electronic trams cleaned by ISS

When The Prince of Wales recently tried out the 200 million state-of-the-art Tramlink system in Croydon, UK, he found it spic-and-span, thanks to ISS. ISS has a three-year contract to clean the trams and stops. Twenty full-time staff provide a 24-hour service, including three deep cleans each night and picking up litter and cleaning spills while the trams are operating. Cleaners are trained to ISS’ five-star standard, which includes the handling of biohazards.

Tramlink is an environmentally friendly public transport system connecting central Croydon to the Purley Way Retail Park, New Addington, Elmers End, Wimbledon, and Beckenham. It is expected to save two million car trips every year. Twenty-four of the electronic-powered trams run over 28 km of track, and each 30-meter tram can carry up to 200 people. There are 38 tram stops, and the fare for an adult costs 90 pence. A trip from the end of any branch line into Croydon takes less than 25 minutes. On his trip from Croydon to New Addington, Prince Charles met a wheelchair user and a mother with a baby in a stroller, who are now easily accommodated on the trams.
