January 12, 2005—Project Management Institute (PMI), a not-for-profit advocacy association for the project management profession, has introduced a revised version of its Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM(TM)) certification.
This revamped credential is specifically designed for those who work on project teams, for those who are just getting started in the project management profession, or for undergraduate and graduate students alike who are seeking a special recognition that will differentiate them from their peers in a very competitive job market.
The updated CAPM certification provides individuals with a credential that establishes credibility based on their knowledge of project management terms and concepts. As an assessment of a candidate’s understanding of fundamental project management knowledge, the CAPM credential is one of the fastest ways to turn project management knowledge into professional credibility and enhance employment opportunities.
The project management profession has grown in scope, importance and recognition in recent years, creating a demand for project management practitioners who represent the highest caliber in professional standards. Responding to this demand, PMI provides universally accepted and recognized professional certifications, including the CAPM credential.
Based solely on A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge-Third Edition (PMBOK Guide-Third Edition), the CAPM credential provides individuals with the knowledge foundation from which to support projects using accepted project management tools, techniques and processes. Additionally, it provides those same individuals with a common lexicon for the profession’s most important concepts, terms and phrases. As a result, the CAPM credential offers a distinct advantage in accessing new opportunities or increasing visibility within team-oriented environments.
To achieve the CAPM credential, candidates must satisfy the educational and the experiential requirements established by PMI and must demonstrate an acceptable and valid level of understanding and knowledge of project management that is tested by the Certified Associate in Project Management Certification Examination.
The CAPM Examination is offered via computer or pencil-and-paper worldwide. For more information on educational and experiential requirements, as well as the CAPM handbook and application form, visit PMI.
