Prophet 21 Internet trading network reduces errors, saves money

December 20, 2002—AutoCrib, a leader in inventory management solutions, and Machine Tools Supply, a distributor of machine tools, are using an Internet trading network developed by Prophet 21 to conduct their trading business electronically—improving customer service and reducing operational costs.

The network, Trading Partner Connect, allows AutoCrib to download restocking orders directly from its vending machines on shoproom floors and automatically place purchase orders with its distributors, including Machine Tools Supply. Operationally, distributors can save about fifteen minutes on each account per day.

Perhaps the biggest benefit for both AutoCrib and Machine Tools Supply, say the companies, has been the improved customer service. Trading Partner Connect has allowed AutoCrib to reassign one part-time employee back to the company’s order desk to improve customer service.

Trading Partner Connect key selling points are that it reduces dead stock, lowers EDI VAN costs, and provides access to a rationalized catalog of millions of items. In addition, distributors may connect with other purchasing platforms and trading communities through Trading Partner Connect.

Distributors may also develop Web sites to give their customers online customer service and ordering capabilities.
