R&D 100 Awards honor innovative products and technologies

October 12, 2005—R&D Magazine has announced the winners of the 43rd Annual R&D 100 Awards, recognizing the most innovative products and technologies of today. From mechanical systems to process technologies and from analytical instruments to electronics, this year’s winners are products, processes, and software that are expected to enhance lives in the upcoming years.

One hundred products, plus Lab of the Year, Scientist of the Year, and Innovator of the Year, were selected by a panel of almost 50 independent technical experts in a sophisticated process lasting nearly a full year.

The winners of this year’s “Oscars of Invention” include engineers and scientists from North America, Europe, and Asia; from industry, government, and academia; and from every area where technology has demonstrated that it can improve the quality of life. Thirty-six of the award-winning innovations were funded, in whole or in part, by taxpayers through the Department of Energy.
