Report outlines radical changes for a “zerocarbonbritain”

August 20, 2007—The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) recently released “zerocarbonbritain,” a framework of policies for Great Britain to reduce its carbon emissions to zero by 2027.

The framework defines a global carbon budget and identifies a fair portion for Britain. It then offers “extreme” solutions such as exchanging gas-powered cars for electric cars; enacting tradable energy quotas for all sectors of society; requiring all new buildings to be carbon free beginning in 2012; and reducing heat demand for buildings by 50% and electricity demand by 10%.

The Centre for Alternative Technology is Europe’s leading eco-centre, specializing in showing practical solutions to environmental problems. For more information visit the zerocarbonbritain Web site.
