Research Frontiers markets SPD-Smart products that instantly tint windows

November 27, 2002—With SPD-Smart film, users can instantly “tint” their windows, skylights, sunroofs, and other products to select the amount of sunlight they want to let in—from clear to dark, or any shade in between. According to product developer Research Frontiers, SPD-Smart windows save energy and provide better comfort and control. They can be controlled manually with a dimmer switch or remote control, or automatically using a photocell, thermostat, or other sensor.

With a power draw of less than 0.06 watts per square foot, a large 16 square foot SPD-Smart window uses only about ten cents of electricity per month to operate continuously.

Research Frontiers has launched a new Web site providing consumers and businesses with information on the commercial availability and benefits of these SPD-Smart products. Seven of Research Frontiers’ licensees, plus their retail outlets and distributors, have now begun to market and sell products incorporating Research Frontiers’ SPD-Smart light-control technology.

The Web site, SmartGlass.com, is part of new branding and marketing initiatives by Research Frontiers and its licensees following the recent Glasstec 2002 Show in Germany where attendees viewed a preview of Research Frontiers’ new Web site.
