Responsible Care recognizes chemical industry performance leaders

June 19, 2006—The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has presented its Responsible Care Leadership Awards, recognizing Milliken Chemical, NOVA Chemicals, and Rohm and Haas for outstanding leadership under the chemistry industry’s environmental, health, safety, and security performance initiative.

Representatives of the award-winning companies accepted the honor before an audience of the industry’s top executives at ACC’s annual membership meeting in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

ACC President and CEO Jack N. Gerard stated, “These award winners have made Responsible Care of utmost importance within their companies and our industry. Milliken, NOVA, and Rohm and Haas lead by example and, perhaps more importantly, they foster the principles of safe and secure management of chemical products and processes throughout their value chain and with industry stakeholders.”

Through the Responsible Care initiative, the chemical industry has reduced environmental emissions by more than 75 percent and achieved a worker safety record that is four and a half times better than the average of the U.S. manufacturing sector.

The Responsible Care Leadership Awards recognize companies that demonstrate outstanding leadership in key aspects of Responsible Care. To be considered for these awards, companies must meet defined safety performance requirements, demonstrate a positive trend in key performance areas and complete security requirements on time. Leadership awards are presented to companies by size category.

For the fourth time and third year in a row, Milliken Chemical, a division of Milliken & Company, has been recognized for leadership in the small company category (less than 2 million work hours).

Two winners were announced in the medium company category (2 million — 20 million work hours):
NOVA Chemicals and Rohm and Haas.

Responsible Care is a global chemical industry performance initiative that is implemented in the US through the American Chemistry Council. For more information, visit the Responsible Care Web site.
