January 5, 2005—Science Applications International Corporation’s (SAIC) System and Network Solutions Group (SNSG) announced that it has achieved Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Maturity Level 5 rating. This is the highest possible attainable rating for benchmarking commercial and defense industry best practices for systems and software management and engineering.
The comprehensive appraisal assessed systems engineering and software development and maintenance disciplines across the organization processes. The SAIC SNSG is one of a few organizations worldwide to achieve this significant milestone.
Specializing in systems integration and engineering, software/systems development and maintenance, network engineering, and security engineering, SAIC’s SNSG provides solutions to defense department, federal government and national security. The SNSG consists of three business units: the Command, Control, Communications, Computing and Information Technology Business Unit, the Federal Communications Solutions Business Unit and the Integrated Security and Systems Business Unit.
The appraisal, led by an SEI-authorized SCAMPI(SM) (Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement) lead appraiser, encompassed a thorough review of project management, engineering, support and process management practices. The Class A SCAMPI(SM) appraisal evaluated multiple projects supporting various systems and engineering development lifecycles. These projects were distributed across several geographic locations to include California, Illinois, New Mexico and Virginia.
