The Newport Coast Elementary School in Newport Beach, California, was awarded a Savings by Design Energy Efficiency Integration award. Sponsored by local utilities Pacific Gas & Electric Co., San Diego Gas & Electric, and Southern California Edison in partnership with the AIA California Council, the award recognizes projects that successfully integrate architectural excellence and energy efficient design.
The Newport school is a 42,000 sq.ft. K-6 facility on a 10-acre site overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was adopted by Southern California Edison (SCE) as a “School of the Future,” focusing on energy efficiency and sustainability in order to create the best environment for learning. SCE’s Design & Engineering Services Group worked with the Perkins & Will architectural design team.
