Security is in itself a specialised area comprising both services, such as security guards, technological solutions and disaster planning alongside products like CCTV, access control and detection devices. More and more the hardware and the software are becoming intermeshed. Technology is replacing guards, while human input is solving problems that traditionally were managed by devices alone.

Other than their size, G4S is about providing a solution rather than simply specifying products. In fact we work with many products. We are also particularly aware of new global standards being requested by international clients and the requirements that products be environmentally friendly. This is a growing trend and we can help clients prepare themselves for it.
What are you latest projects of developments?
In the past security used to be about just manpower; guards and trucks. Now it is truly seems a solutions provider. We are working on Ports & Airports, Transport & Logistics providing manpower services to also providing technical solutions monitored by ours staff which adds up becoming the total security solutions. This involve more than supplying a manpower, it also requires the management of the business processes. Especially in the world of retail the 360 approach taken by G4S has won fans from clients who appreciate the value-added services. Refer to our Annual Report 2009, we are experienced at this as 21 percent of our business globally is Major Corporate & Industrial, and another 21 percent is working with Financial Institutions. That amounts to GBP1.5m each. In the world of security G4S supplies access controls systems and these products compete on the same level with other global manufacturers of building management systems. As they increasingly have to act in concert with them. Take video door entry phones as an example. Today they can be used to activate alarm systems as well as Control Home Automation which is a trend that over the last eight years G4S has been promoting to the residential developers.
