October 5, 2007—The Security Industry Association (SIA) has announced the launch of a new training initiative to meet the security industry’s need for timely and relevant training.
SIA identified the first seven critical job roles in the security technology industry, developed a competency model to represent the skills needed to perform these jobs effectively, and built a listing of courses applicable to the needed skills—a curriculum map.
SIA explains that the mission of SIA Education is to raise the level of knowledge and professionalism in the security technology industry channel. Companies and individuals can log in to SIA’s Curriculum Map online and use these new tools to:
- Establish job descriptions based on needed skills.
- Identify the right people for critical jobs and get them trained quickly.
- Develop training and coaching programs.
- Build performance assessments for developing employees.
- Target training dollars.
SIA’s new training initiative was announced at the International Security Conference & Exposition (ISC East) 2007 in New York. At the event, its presentation focused on the initiative’s benefits, and participants were invited to try out the new tools and develop customized training programs for their specific jobs within the security industry.
