February 18, 2004—San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) and The Southern California Gas Company (SCG), the Utilities of Sempra Energy, have elected to implement a company-wide data management system from ESP (Environmental Software Providers) for tracking and reporting on greenhouse gases.
The decision demonstrates a commitment by Sempra Energy to sustainable business practices and climate change initiatives. The Utilities will implement ESP’s Greenhouse Gas Suite across its operations. The software will help the Utilities manage its greenhouse gas inventory and reduction projects. Both Utilities are members of the California Climate Action Registry (CCAR), a voluntary registry organization for greenhouse gas emissions. The Greenhouse Gas Suite software will provide the Utilities with auditable, certifiable greenhouse gas emissions data for reporting to the registry and for other voluntary greenhouse gas reporting.
The Utilities of Sempra Energy, a long-time user of ESP’s enterprise environmental management software products, will implement Greenhouse Gas Suite as part of its overall environmental data management system.
The Utilities’ decision to implement Greenhouse Gas Suite comes on the heels of the U.S. DOE’s November 26 release of proposed new 1605b General Guidelines for voluntary greenhouse gas reporting. Greenhouse Gas Suite, which has been helping participants in the 1605b program manage their voluntary greenhouse reporting for the past year, provides off-the-shelf capability for entity-wide analysis and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions, fully in accord with the proposed new DOE guidelines.
ESP’s Greenhouse Gas Suite, which is the only greenhouse gas software on the market currently in use on an enterprise scale, helps companies manage their greenhouse gas inventories and track reduction project performance. Greenhouse Gas Suite is fully integratable with a company’s existing environmental data management system.
