April 18, 2007—For the second consecutive year, carpet manufacturer Shaw Industries has been recognized by the Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP).
The WRAP award has been administered by the California Integrated Waste Management Board for the past 14 years as a means to publicly promote businesses locally and statewide that implement environmental best practices for successful reduction of waste disposal in landfills.
The WRAP designation was bestowed upon Shaw’s four facilities in California that service the Tuftex and Designweave brands. In 2005, Shaw diverted more than 5 million pounds of recyclables from disposal to landfill, resulting in significant savings through waste reduction, reuse and reduced landfill costs. By the end of 2006, these carpet manufacturing facilities reduced landfill waste by an additional 56 percent. Shaw is also employing a wet lint capture at Plant WG and is helping to pioneer this form of waste capturing technology.
