Sherwin-Williams now offers Microban protection in select liquid and powder coatings

April 7, 2010—Sherwin-Williams Chemical Coatings Division has partnered with Microban International, the global leader in built-in antimicrobial protection, to offer select liquid and powder product finishes with Microban antimicrobial protection, according to Sherwin-Williams.

Microban protection works continuously to inhibit the growth of bacteria that can cause stain, odor, discoloration and deterioration of the painted surface.

Sherwin-Williams Chemical Coatings now offers seven new Microban-infused coatings products, including select Polane, Powdura, Kem Aqua and SHER-WOOD finishes, with more products under development.

On unprotected coated surfaces, bacteria can double in number every 20 minutes. Microban antimicrobial technology works to inhibit the ability of microbes to reproduce, making it ideal for wood, plastic and metal products such as medical diagnostic equipment, keyboards and keypads, gym lockers and workout equipment, laboratory and institutional furniture, door hardware and kitchen cabinets, or wherever cleanliness is a priority.

This added level of protection extends the longevity, integrity and appearance of coated surfaces, says the company.

Unlike surface disinfectants, which temporarily eliminate microbes, Microban technology works 24/7. It never has to be reapplied and won’t wash off or wear away, so it continues to provide protection for the life of the coating. Microban technologies have undergone extensive independent laboratory testing.
