Short list for Prime Ministers Better Public Building Awards is announced

July 11, 2005—A sustainable school in Cheshire, a public library in Brighton, an international center for music in Gateshead and a restaurant in a Royal park have all made this years shortlist for the Prime Ministers Better Public Building Award.

Now in its fifth year, this annual architecture award recognizes excellence in design quality and procurement practices of publicly funded building schemes. This year a total of 15 schemes are shortlisted for the award from a total of 140 entries—a record number for the Award.

  • Jubilee Library, Brighton
  • South Stockton Link, Stockton on Tees
  • A470 Cardiff to Glan Conwy Road, Wales
  • The Home Office Project, London
  • Tinsley Viaduct strengthening project, Sheffield
  • Goggs East (Government Office Great George Street)
  • The SAGE, Gateshead
  • The Hub, Newham London
  • Sladesbridge Flood Defence Scheme, Cornwall
The Award has been jointly sponsored by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and the Office of Government Commerce (OGC). It is part of the British Construction Industry Awards and the winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on Oct. 13. For more information on the list, see the Web site.
