Siemens has instituted a billion-euro investment program to integrate its operations at a “fast and furious” pace. Plans call for strategically located “centres of e-excellence” to drive and coordinate networking initiatives. The goal: transformation of business process, extending from e-procurement to e-logistics and e-recruitment. Shortly, all 440,000 employees will have intranet access by the end of 2000.
Currently, about 70% of Siemens’ activities are networked, and these will be integrated into a total system. Siemens regards e-procurement as the key priority. Ten percent of Siemens’ total procurement volume of 35 billion euros is now processed electronically and that will rise to more than 50%.
