Silicon Energy to provide energy management solutions for Los Angeles

October 7, 2002—Silicon Energy, a provider of enterprise energy management solutions, recently announced that Los Angeles County, the nation’s largest county, has developed its Enterprise Energy Information Management System (EEMIS) for analyzing critical energy information, managing energy use, and improving energy efficiency, using Silicon Energy’s EEM Suite integrated technology.

The County’s EEMIS establishes critical objectives for a successful energy strategy, defines the specific requirements for managing energy, then evaluates energy solutions and develops an implementation plan. The EEMIS allows the county to get meter data from the largest facilities within the county including data from air conditioning, lighting, and separated building loads. The system covers data from facilities like hospitals, courthouses, jails, office buildings, warehouses, and mid/small office buildings.

As part of the EEMIS system, Silicon Energy is developing additional reporting capabilities to allow the County’s energy managers to:

  • Aggregate energy consumption;
  • Aggregate energy use for like-department types to establish baseline best practices and replicate across all departments; and
  • Aggregate department type totals to determine energy expense by different department types.

The EEM Suite was selected based on its ability to provide vast amounts of information to allow the County to analyze both immediate and future energy usage. This is important for Los Angeles County since they have the practices in place to perform in-depth data analysis as well as develop custom tools and reports. Los Angeles County has 38 departments located in approximately 2400 buildings and totaling over $100 million per year.
