June 1, 2007—The Paideia School, located at 1509 Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta, has announced that Silverman Construction Program Management will oversee extensive construction work on several new facilities on the school campus beginning in June.
A new junior high school building, practice gym, black box theater, parking and addition to the existing gymnasium are all planned. Silverman was initially retained to assist with some planning and negotiation. Arnie Silverman, president and chairman of the board of Silverman, has a long history of working and serving at the school.
“This is the larges project we have ever undertaken, so it’s an extremely exciting time at Paideia,” said Bill Clark, chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee for the school and a partner with Stevens & Wilkinson, Stang & Newdow.
Perkins+Will is serving as the architect, while Brasfield & Gorrie will act as the general contractor. The project is expected to last 12 months, and the new buildings are expected to open in time for the start of the 2008-2009 academic year.
The school serves families with children ages three through eighteen. Paideia, founded in 1971, is nonsectarian and actively seeks racial, cultural, and socioeconomic diversity in its student body. For more information, see its Web site.
