Skanska wins contract to build NY Giants/Jets Meadowlands stadium

January 31, 2007—Skanska USA Building has been awarded the design/build contract for the new Meadowlands NFL Football Stadium in New Jersey. The contract amounts to $998 million, according to the company.

The worldwide construction company has constructed other US stadiums in recent years. Skanska USA Building is located in Parsippany, New Jersey; the parent firm, Skanska AB, is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.

The new stadium will be the home field for the New York Giants and the New York Jets, the first facility built specifically to accommodate two US National Football League teams. The stadium will also be used for concerts and other entertainment and sports activities.

According to Skanska, the NFL Football Stadium will be a technologically advanced open-air stadium with seats for 82,000 spectators, including 217 Luxury Suite boxes. The project is a design/build assignment with Skanska USA Building contributing its vast building experience from previous Skanska stadium, including Gillette Stadium in Boston. Skanska USA Civil will act as subcontractor for the steel works with a share of the contract amounting to USA $150 M.
