Small and Mid Size UK Firms Gain Online Presence

Within the past six months there has been a dramatic increase in the number of small and mid size UK firms having an online presence. A recent Mori survey shows that 75 percent of UK-based SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) are embracing e-commerce. The survey reveals also that 50 percent are selling online, although some question the validity of the data. According to Marcus Russell, general manager for the internet division of e-commerce financials software house Access Accounting, “If the figures are to be believed it seems that there has been a leap in the number of businesses embracing e-commerce.” He adds that more must be done to compete with the US in the internet economy, but that SMEs recognize they must “adapt or die.” and recognize that the internet as an opportunity to win and retain customers.
