November 28, 2003—Smart Systems International (SSI), an innovator of intelligent energy-saving management systems for the hotel industry, has announced that its Canadian distributor, Smart Energy Systems Canada (SESC), has signed a major contract for the use of Smart Systems’ wireless energy saving systems in Canada with Superior Lodging, the Canadian territorial developer of Super 8 Motels.
Smart Systems’ solutions provide significant reduction in energy use and costs while assuring maximum comfort for hotel guests, says the company. Under the terms of this agreement, Superior Lodging will install Smart Systems programmable wireless thermostats, PTAC controllers and room occupancy sensors in its corporately controlled hotels and provide the same offer to all of its affiliates, including 100 hotels in the Super 8 Canada chain.
In order to quickly see the return on investment for the smart energy control systems, the properties will lease the equipment. The wireless control systems will provide greater savings in room energy costs than the cost of the monthly lease payment, claims the company. SESC calculates that the average Super 8 Motel (with 100 rooms) will save over $20,000 in energy cost per year.
To provide maximum savings and comfort, the computerized systems use Recovery Time Technology to allow room temperatures to drift to energy-saving levels when the room is unoccupied, and then to quickly recover to the guests’ desired temperature upon their return to the room. Smart Systems’ microprocessors record data to demonstrate actual cost savings based on occupancy, weather conditions, and equipment performance.
