January 9, 2004—The Swedish company Smoke Free Systems has developed a system of “Smoking Stations” and “Smoking Squares” that allow companies to integrate smoking areas into the rest of the workplace without risking the health or comfort of non-smokers.
The open Smoking Stations replace traditional smoking rooms and provide an advanced air purification system. All models comprise an active smoking zone, ash handling system, table, and footrest. The T-series frame is made of wood with birch as standard. The C-series is made of aluminum and hardened glass with a more exclusive design and to capture the smoke even more efficiently. The number of Smoking Stations and the size required is determined by the number of smokers in the catchment area served by each unit and not the number of persons who will be smoking at the same time.
The Smoking Square, on the other hand, is a unit designed for handling smoking in public areas where many people gather and interact at the same time. Typical examples are conference facilities, canteens, and foyers. The unit is completely open so that people can congregate whether or not some of them are smokers. Despite the open design, the room is completely free of smells and smoke even when someone is smoking. The system is based on capturing the smoke before it can spread into the room and cleaning it in Smoke Free Systems’ patented filter system, specially designed for tobacco smoke. The unit is free standing and installed without any modifications to existing premises. All it requires is a normal power outlet and no connection to a ventilation system is needed.
