November 28, 2001—Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation has upgraded to the Datastream 7i hosted enterprise asset lifecycle management solution. The initial deployment will involve seven of Smurfit-Stone’s manufacturing facilities, which will use Datastream 7i to manage several thousand capital assets with maximum efficiency. Datastream 7i also offers fully integrated access to Datastream’s iProcure network, providing an automated maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) procurement capability that can further reduce cost and streamline operations, according to the announcement.
Further, Smurfit-Stone expects the upgrade to enhance functionality and gain the advantage inherent in a pure Web-architected solution. Using Datastream 7i, Smurfit-Stones personnel can access the application using a Web browser, greatly reducing the cost and time required to deploy the application on worker desktops. Smurfit-Stone does not have to invest in the personnel and equipment required to maintain the application in-house. Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation is the premier manufacturer of paper and paperboard-based packaging.
