November 21, 2001—The Sony Technology Center-Pittsburgh (STC-P) has upgraded to the Datastream hosted asset life-cycle management application in order to optimize the management of its assets, reduce inventory levels, and streamline purchasing processes. By eliminating the software and equipment costs inherent in self-hosted applications, as well as enabling the more efficient use of personnel, Datastreams hosted application provides the Sony facility with the lowest total cost-of-ownership of any enterprise asset management (EAM) system.
As the provider of the industry’s only Web-architected EAM system, Datastream enables STC-P end-users to manage their assets through a Web browser from any location, over an Internet connection. As a result, Sony can greatly reduce the time and cost involved in deploying the system. This flexible deployment capability is critical for a large enterprise such as Sony.
Because STC-P has offices and manufacturing facilities distributed around the world, asset management and MRO inventory and purchasing optimization are critical to each facility and the company’s bottom line, says the organization. The company had been using Datastream Systems’ self-hosted asset management products, but chose to upgrade to the Datastream-hosted application based on its Web architecture and enhanced functionality.
