September 24, 2007—Sony and Waste Management are collaborating to launch a nationwide e- waste recycling program. As of September 15, Sony electronic products can be dropped off at 75 Waste Management Recycle America eCycling centers in 18 states, with concentrations in California, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin.
The companies plan to double the number of drop-off sites within a year, placing at least one recycling center in each state, with the eventual goal of opening centers within 20 miles of 95 percent of the US population.
The Sony Take Back Recycling Program charges a market-rate fee to recycle other non-Sony products, and may charge extra for some materials. To locate a recycling center, call 1-877-439-2795 or visit the program Web site.
