November 5, 2008—With the help of a Blue Sky grant from Rocky Mountain Power, facilities management installed 35 solar panels on the facilities building west of campus, said David Tanner associate vice president for Facilities Management.
The panels are in addition to different landscaping initiatives using 80 different types of trees around campus, as well as drought resistant shrubs, Tanner said.
“It’s the holistic approach,” he said. “We are encouraging the entire campus to help be more conservative.”
Utility services manager Tiger Funk said the $30,000 grant from Rocky Mountain Power was essential in the addition of the solar panels. Depending on the way the panels work out for the university, there may be more installed in the future, Funk said.
