April 1, 2002—Spicer Corporation’s new ViewCaf 2.1 document viewing solution features new symbol and banner tools as well as an enhanced printing capability that accelerates Java-based printing performance by up to 85% for some files such as large format engineering documents.
Powered by Java 2 and Java 3D technology, ViewCaf lets users conduct document view, markup, and collaborative review sessions for over 150 file formats such as CAD, vector, raster, hybrid, and office files including MS Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF through an easy-to-use and configurable browser-based interface. Recently, ViewCaf also introduced 3D CAD model viewing and manipulation capabilities for IGES, STL, VRML, and XGL/ZGL formats.
New features for ViewCaf 2.1 include:
- Custom Symbol Tool—Users can define customized symbols that are displayed in a thumbnail-style symbols library.
- Extended Banner Support—ISO-compliant banners can now be placed outside of the document boundaries and users can specify a fixed-point size for banner text that will not resize as users magnify and reduce a document.
- Accelerated Printing Performance—ViewCaf 2.1 includes a new Rasterize on Print function that significantly reduces the time required to print sizable documents such as large-format engineering drawings.
- API Enhancements—Streamlined API calls have resulted in easier and more efficient integration to document management systems as well as faster response when the user requests to view documents.
