August 5, 2002—Sprint, the largest all-digital, all-PCS wireless network in the United States, announced today that the company was recognized by Frost & Sullivan with the annual Market Engineering Award for Mobile Office Solutions for PCS Business Connection Personal Edition and PCS Business Connection Enterprise Edition.
The annual Frost & Sullivan Market Engineering Award for Mobile Office Solutions is presented to the company that has demonstrated excellence and innovation in developing new mobile office products and technologies within the enterprise space. The selected companies are critically judged on technology significance, competitive advantage of new product(s), product innovation in terms of revolutionary technology, product acceptance and new product value-added services.
PCS Business Connection Personal Edition allows individual Sprint customers to download software to their desktop so that they can self-provision secure, real-time mobile access to enterprise applications including email, calendar, company directory, personal contacts and files on their personal computer.
Once registered, customers can retrieve real-time data from their Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino email servers while the data remains secure behind the corporate firewall. In addition, changes made on the mobile device are updated on the server in real-time, and do not require synchronization.
Because the solution is network-based, the enterprise maintains complete management control of the applications, while offloading the cost of ongoing hardware, software and device management. Advantages of the PCS Business Connection Enterprise Edition model include managed and controlled secure access to enterprise data on a variety of devices without cumbersome hardware or software installations behind the company firewall.
