STORServer ships HIPAA-conformant backup solution that solves disaster

March 3, 2003—STORServer Inc., a producer of enterprise backup technology, has started shipping a STORServer Backup Appliance that’s designed to fully address sweeping changes being made to the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.

“Our solution offers a combination of hardware, software, and services designed to help customers meet the final October 16 deadline for achieving HIPAA mandates on data safety, business continuance, and operational accountability regulations,” says STORServer President John Pearring.

More than 200,000 health practices and claim processing entities need to show by October that they’ve met HIPAA’s revised standards for sending and receiving electronic patient health information. In addition, healthcare entities must also show compliance by April 14 to HIPAA mandates regarding security of documents.

All existing STORServer Backup Appliance models can be configured to conform to HIPAA mandated file-level data security specifications for online backup, archiving, and disaster recovery.
