October 21, 2005—Summit Environmental Corporation, Inc. has been awarded a contract to decontaminate, remove bio-hazard waste/debris and remediate the New Orleans Arena, the company says.
Teaming with local Louisiana certified hazardous material specialists, Summit created a Rapid Response Team of 17 staffers who cleaned common areas of the arena such as the playing field, corridors and more than 330 bathrooms in 16 days.
The team used large oil-field extraction equipment to remove the bio-waste and then eradicated the contamination using compressed air foam (CAF) systems. Summit used the McCaw Back Pak CAF Unit from its marketing partner, Inteligard. The CAF units were used to disperse Summit’s decontamination and remediation chemicals, Ultimate Odor Control 1106 and Ultimate Clean 850 BioEnhancer, using FlameOut as the carrying agent to eliminate odors and remediate toxins and waste byproducts. The restroom facilities were then scrubbed and deodorized, including all floors, walls, railings and counters.
“The New Orleans Arena was used to treat high-needs medical patients initially arriving at the Louisiana Superdome. After seven days of confinement of tens of thousands of people into buildings designed for four-hour events—without electrical, water and sewer services for that entire period—you can begin to understand the bio-remediation expertise needed to properly restore this facility,” said Paul Kowalenko, Summit Director of Sales and Marketing.
