October 31, 2007—Sun Microsystems has launched a new Web portal as part of the Carbon Disclosure Project that allows companies, government agencies, and NGOs to calculate and benchmark their greenhouse gas emissions and to set realistic goals for reductions.
The site, called OpenEco.org, is a global on-line community that provides free, easy-to-use tools to help participants assess, track, and compare energy performance, share proven best practices to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and encourage sustainable innovation.
The only requirement to join is for companies to share their data, whether anonymously or by name.
OpenEco is built in partnership with Natural Logic, which provides a service that tracks performance of one’s comprehensive environmental footprint, including water, materials and “wastes.”
