May 17, 2006—SunPower Corporation, a Silicon Valley-based manufacturer of solar cells and solar panels, has announced the installation of its solar panels in the Silicon Valley’s largest commercial solar system, located at Microsoft’s Mountain View, CA, campus.
The 480-kilowatt solar power system converts sunlight directly into electricity to power a portion of the buildings and equipment on the Microsoft campus. SunPower’s high-efficiency solar panels were integrated into the rooftop solar system designed and supplied by PowerLight Corp. of Berkeley, CA.
SunPower says its solar panels offer up to 50 percent more power per square foot than conventional solar technology. The company offers all-black solar panels that improve the appearance of solar systems while maximizing the solar power generated per square foot of roof area.
