September 19, 2005—Whitestone Research has released the ninth edition of the Whitestone Building Maintenance and Repair Cost Reference, 2005 – 2006. This year’s edition includes detailed maintenance and repair cost statistics for 200 US metropolitan areas and 10 Canadian cities.
The average M&R cost per square foot ranged from $3.66 in New York City to $1.20 in Beaufort, South Carolina. In Washington DC, the benchmark city for Whitestone’s Building M&R Cost Reference, the cost increased by 4.7% over the past year. The overall M&R costs for the 200 US cities increased by 5.2% in 2004.
The top five most expensive cities for facility maintenance and repair costs, in order from most expensive down, are New York, New York; Yonkers, New York; San Francisco, California; Trenton, New Jersey; and San Jose, California.
