Survey says one-third of UK companies need contingency planning

October 19, 2003—Business continuity is now one of the key priorities for CIOs and IT management, a recent study conducted by Legato Systems Inc.—a provider of data protection software solutions—has shown.

Sixty-four percent of the UK organizations questioned recognize economic loss as having the biggest impact on their business should they lose access to data. Despite this, almost one-third of those surveyed have not considered business continuity as a priority. Now there are demands from CEOs, shareholders, and regulatory bodies for organizations to put business continuity planning in place due to increased awareness of its importance since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Key findings of the survey were:

  • 28 percent of those questioned admitted business continuity had not always been a priority; and
  • 100 percent saw business continuity as an ongoing investment for them in the future.
