June 27, 2007—Symbiot has released its updated Snow/Ice Management cost index for the 2007/08 season. The index is compiled from the company’s contract management data; Symbiot manages thousands of properties in all regions of the US, including both urban and non-urban areas. The index is designed to provide property managers a budget planning tool for snow and ice management expenses in the US.
The average US cost is 1.00 and each region’s forecast cost is measured as a ratio to the US average cost. Example: The lowest cost region is the New England at a .90 ratio while the most expensive region is the Southeast at a 1.10 ratio.
According to Symbiot CEO Mike Edwards, “Regions that lack an established snow and ice management infrastructure tend to have higher costs as snow/ice events are managed on an ad hoc or on call basis which is much less efficient (Mid-Atlantic, Southwest, Southeast) whereas regions with an established infrastructure (New England, Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, Pacific Northwest) benefit from a more efficient structure.”
Edwards also points out that costs are expected to increase 8-12% this year due to a combination of fuel and labor inflation.
Symbiot is a leading and national provider of outsourced facility and property services based in Draper, Utah.
