April 3, 2006—Teknion Corporation introduces three wool upholstery fabric lines from the pioneering Danish textile mill Gabriel A/S. With fabric patterns Europost, Frame, and Gaja, Teknion becomes the first contract furniture manufacturer to offer these environmentally friendly wool seating textiles in North America, according to the international designer, manufacturer and marketer of office systems and related office furniture products.
To create the fabrics, environmentally certified farmers in New Zealand supply pure new wool from sheep that are raised in a 100 percent balanced, natural environment. Wool is cleaned without the use of chemical agents, and yarn dyes are totally free of hazardous heavy metals such as nickel, lead, and chromium. At the end of its life, wool upholstery fabric is biodegradable.
Teknion points out that wool has several inherent performance benefits including comfort, durability, colorfastness, and a strong environmental story. Teknion is offering 25 color options from each pattern; all are enhanced by highly competitive prices.
A short time ago, Teknion introduced four other sustainable textiles. Spiral and Speckle are renewable, biodegradable panel fabrics whose fibers are processed from biodegradable polyactide (PLS) polymer resin derived from corn. Mardi Gras and Martini are Eco Intelligent Polyester seating fabrics using progressively sustainable methods of manufacturing.
