June 23, 2004—Teknion Corporation has received Chain-of-Custody certification from The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for its Toronto-based facilities. Chain-of-Custody certification applies to Teknion furniture made from veneer, MDF, and particleboard harvested from forests designated by FSC to be responsibly managed.
Chain of Custody (CoC) is the process by which the wood source is verified by FSC to be a responsibly managed forest. In order for products originating from certified sources to be eligible to carry the FSC trademark, wood must be tracked from the forest through all steps of the production process until it reached the end user. When tracking has been independently verified, the product is eligible to carry the FSC logo.
FSC is an international, non-profit association of members from environmental and social groups, timber trades, forestry professions, indigenous people’s organizations, community forestry groups, and forest product certification organizations. Based on Bonn, Germany, FSC develops responsible forest management standards and accredits and monitors certification bodies to these rigorous standards.
