Teknion receives pollution prevention award for waste minimization

June 26, 2009—Teknion Corporation reports that the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) recognized the company with a 2009 CCME Pollution Prevention Award in the Large Business (500+ employees) Category.

The annual CCME Pollution Prevention Awards recognize up to seven companies or organizations of all sizes and from all sectors for their overall pollution prevention efforts, innovations and reductions in greenhouse gases. The awards highlight efforts to minimize or avoid creating pollutants and waste at the source rather than to clean up or treat them after they have been produced. Pollution prevention can be instrumental in addressing some of the most challenging environmental issues, particularly climate change, smog and reducing toxic substances.

Teknion continues to receive recognition for its ongoing environmental initiatives. At the Environment and Energy Conference (EECO 2007) in Toronto, Teknion was the recipient of a GLOBE Award for Environmental Excellence. In 2007, Teknion earned Gold in the annual Ontario Waste Minimization Awards and followed up in 2008 with Platinum the highest honor in the Business category. Also in 2008, the company received a Highly Commendable rating in the Sustainable Leadership Awards sponsored by CoreNet Global.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Government’s General Services Administration (GSA) recognized Teknion’s outstanding environmental practices and commitment to a sustainable future with an Evergreen Award.

CCME works to promote the cooperation and coordination of inter-jurisdictional issues such as waste management, air pollution and toxic chemicals.
