October 19, 2007—Tepsco, a Houston-based engineering and contracting firm, has completed a major cooling system expansion for a large hospital located in Houston’s Texas Medical Center district.
Tepsco used CADWorx fieldPipe to deliver savings in time and labor plus increased accuracy when compared to conventional approaches, according to the company. The cooling system for the 13-story project required tapping into the existing municipal/district chilled water system for the expansion’s HVAC system.
The expansion required substantial ground excavation yet had to be added without affecting or shutting down the Texas Medical Center’s 13 hospitals and 45 research facilities, the largest such complex in the world, providing five million patient visits per year.
CADWorx fieldPipe, co-developed by COADE and Leica Geosystems, draws on the power and accuracy of the Leica Total Station’s laser measurement system to accurately capture dimensional information and produce intelligent as-built models of the existing plant piping and facilities, all without leaving the site.
