Texas utility says customers will be in control in deregulated energy market

January 4, 2002—Beginning this month, most customers in Texas have, for the first time, an opportunity to choose their energy provider. Rob McCoy, retail president of TXU Energy, says customers can expect a future full of opportunity and innovation.

McCoy, who has led three companies through deregulation, says his experience is that customers will see innovative products and many new service options from a competitive TXU. “Customers can expect the same reliable service from TXU,” McCoy said, plus they can look forward to an immediate decrease of more than 14 percent in their electric bills.

TXU Energy will compete with other retail energy providers in Texas after Jan. 1, 2002, for its share of the state’s eight million electric customers. TXU Energy will promote itself as the best value for customers. TXU is one of the largest energy companies in the world with $28 billion of annual revenue and $43 billion of assets.

“TXU is ready for competition in what will be the largest competitive electric market in the U.S.,” said McCoy. Texas customers who want more information about TXU Energy and competition should contact TXU or call 866/225-5898.
