June 28, 2006—The Green Guide recently featured the Top 10 Green Cities in the US: 2006, a list of cities whose environmental achievements set the standard for others. According to the report, cities across the country are “taking environmental stewardship into their own hands and reducing their burden on the planet.”
As reported in GreenerBuildings, The Green Guide surveyed 251 metropolitan areas with populations above 100,000. Combining the responses with information from government agencies and other independent sources, the researchers ranked the Top 25 green cities in the US, giving special recognition to the Top 10.
The Top 10 green cities for 2006 are:
- Eugene, OR;
- Austin, TX;
- Portland, OR;
- St. Paul, MN;
- Santa Rosa, CA;
- Oakland, CA;
- Berkeley, CA;
- Honolulu, HI;
- Huntsville, AL;
- Denver, CO. Austin, Portland, Honolulu, and Oakland all remained in the Top 10 from 2005.
