The Home Depot wins GSA schedule contract; plans to expand federal government business

June 25, 2003—The Home Depot has been awarded a General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule contract, making the company now the largest retailer with a GSA Schedule contract.

Federal government customers may use any register in the stores, including the Pro Sales Desk. Available in more than 1,200 of the 1,407 U.S. Home Depot stores, the Pro Sales area provides federal government customers and professional contractors with such services as phone and fax ordering and a separate checkout area. Additionally, nearly every store offers delivery service.

To meet the unique needs of the federal government on all levels, The Home Depot is launching “The Home Depot Government Solutions Group.” Part of the team will be based in Washington, D.C., to work directly with federal agencies, while an outside sales team will fulfill the needs of federal agencies and military installations across the country.

To develop a structure to best serve the federal government, Home Depot worked closely with Maintenance Warehouse (MWH), a Home Depot company that has served the federal government for the last four years under its own GSA Schedule. MWH key product lines include plumbing, hardware, lighting, electrical, janitorial, HVAC, appliances and tools. Together, the two businesses provide a full line of products and services for federal government customers.
