Three-year UK study to examine security effectiveness now and in the future

March 28, 2005—A major national study into security, its effectiveness and its future is being launched by a university-industry collaboration. The study, called the Security Research Initiative, is supported by leading security associations, including ASIS International, British Security Industry Association, Joint Security Industry Council and The Security Institute.

The three-year investigation is being led by Martin Gill, Professor of Criminology at the University of Leicester and director of Perpetuity Research and Consultancy International, a spin-out company from Leicester University that is partly owned by the university.

The study will examine clients and end users view of the security industry; private security and the future; and the effectiveness of security.

Results from the study should lead to better security in businesses and the public sector, based on sound knowledge of what works and what doesn’t.
