MGE UPS Systems and Capstone Turbine Corp. are partnering to offer Uninterruptible Power Supplies combined with Microturbine power generation to businesses that must have clean, reliable, and steady power. This new integrated solution was developed to meet needs of facilities running critical computing and production operations that demand 100 percent power availability. MGE provides power protection solutions to computer data centers, telecom and industrial operations. Capstone produces MicroTurbines in a variety of turnkey configurations to supplement large power plants and the electric grid.
Onsite generation systems such as the Capstone MicroTurbine are supplements to large power plants and the electric grid. Creating power onsite enables businesses to improve power reliability, add capacity, isolate themselves from power disturbances, and reduce their reliance on expensive peak utility power.
When the utility power fails, MGE’s UPS systems will protect connected equipment and then switch to the microturbine for extended uptime. The UPS bridges the power gap between the computer system and the microturbine to ensure continuous power when transferring from the UPS to the microturbine. The companies claim that momentary glitch in power is enough to damage a computer network, corrupt data, or throw computer-controlled manufacturing equipment offline.
