Tyco Electronics recently announced that Torrey Mesa Research Institute, one of the largest research endeavors dedicated to agricultural genomics, is employing Amp Netconnect fiber optic and copper communications cabling systems within their research facility in La Jolla, Calif.
The cabling infrastructure supports both voice and data requirements for the 80,000 sq.-ft. Institute. According to the Institute, their data is well in excess of three terabytes, with each department producing gigabytes of data a day that needs to be copied, analyzed, and stored.
Because it is mission-critical to transmit these gigabytes or terabytes of research data in a timely, error-free fashion, the Institute installed Amp Netconnect single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cabling, as well as the Amp Netconnect Enhanced Category 5 unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) copper wiring and related connector systems. In all, some 400,000 linear feet (over 75 miles) of high-speed communications cabling was used to connect 400 workstations, 110 offices, and 24 laboratory tech benches. 250 laboratory benches were cabled with dual data outlets, as well.
